Abstract

Summary This paper describes the development of a three-dimensional model for circumferential gas tungsten arc (GTA) welding of pipes. The previous paper describes a model for circumferential GTA welding of pipes with a single V groove. The present paper compares the calculated results obtained using the previous model with the experimental ones actually obtained in GTA welding. The effects of surface tension and arc pressure on the GTA welding process are also examined experimentally and theoretically. The results suggest that the proposed model is suitable for estimation of welding process parameters during circumferential GTA welding of pipes.
