Abstract

Some anharmonic properties of TlBr are calculated using a variable-charge shell model. The Gruneisen parameters of the long-wavelength acoustic modes calculated from the measured pressure derivatives of the second-order elastic constants disagree with the theoretical values computed by Cowley and Okazaki (see abstr. A37556 of 1967). Expressions are derived for the third-order elastic constants on the variable-charge shell model and the anharmonic parameters are obtained from the measured pressure derivatives. The dispersion of the mode Gruneisen parameters has been calculated along the three symmetry directions. There is a need to remeasure the thermal expansion of TlBr at low temperatures.
