Abstract

It is shown by the practice that cooperation and competition are ubiquitous in the freight transportation market. The relationships among freight transportation modes are laid out on diagrams. Modality of competition or cooperation and its evolvement paths are investigated through theoretic analysis of synergetic models and the demonstration of China. The authors conclude the relationships among different freight transportation modes can be classified as no-relationship, competition-leading, cooperation-leading, and competition. These relationships can be laid on a two-dimension phase diagram and there are three mainstream evolvement modalities of the freight transportation market driven by competition-cooperation: “No-relationship — Competition-leading — and Competition”, “No-relationship — Competition-leading — Cooperation-leading” and “No-relationship — Competition-leading — Competition and — Cooperation-leading.”
