Minimum and Maximum Phase Properties of Non-Causal Filters

Abstract

We suggest to use a definition of the minimum-phase and the maximum-phase properties, which has already successfully been applied to sequences, also for non-causal filters. In contrast to the usual definition, this definition includes poles outside the unit circle. Our choice is motivated by investigating the two definitions and showing their consequences. An important advantage of the suggested definition is that here, also maximum-phase filters have a fixed relation between their magnitude responses and their phase responses.
