Abstract

This, the first of a two part paper, aims to propose the new concept of Minimal Structure control. The paper outlines and explains why there is a need for this additional class of multivariable controllers and why it is imperative that they be given a separate identify. In addition, two basic tools are presented to aid preliminary analysis and design of Minimal Structure controllers. In the second paper, these tools will be used to design Minimal Structure controllers for two real-life systems to show the powerful nature of this approach to controller design.
