Abstract

The subject of the study are regional strategies of memory policy, in particular the use of religious images to legitimize regional identity. The purpose of the article is to analyze the specifics of the use of such a symbolic resource as images of saints in the regional commemorations practices of the Saratov region in the 19th — 21th centuries. Based on the functional (M. Halbwax) and structural (P. Bourdier) approaches, the use by religious institutions of an archaeological find with the name of Prince Mikhail for symbolic competition in the 19th century is analyzed, as well as the mainstreaming of this competition in the post-Soviet regional space.
