Abstract
Starting with a reflection on my very own and personal encounter with the Węgajty Theatre, in my essay I propose to understand its history through diverse clashes of differing scale and scope, encompassing both the individual as well as the global scale or this of the earth-system. In contrasting sections of Wacław Sobaszek’s journey with different practices, performances and events that are representative for Węgajty practice, I argue that it is not the analysis of history itself but the different qualities of time that open our understanding both for a very close and personal relation as well as for elements that were hitherto disregarded: as the non-human that is so strongly connected to the history of this theatre. By drawing on issues related to the Anthropocene paradigm, I argue that the practice of the Węgajty Theatre points not only to the necessity of considering a more-than-human history but also to the need to rethink from which scale and from which vantage point history and history’s actors are constituted – and which role theatre and the arts may play in this task.
