Abstract

We introduced a fast and safe synthesis method for the growth of CdSe quantum dots (QDs). After the examination of different solvents, we chose the N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone as an appropriate solvent and used microwave irradiation for QDs synthesis. To compare with the previous colloidal method, we also synthesized the CdSe quantum dots in the organic solvents of octadecene and liquid paraffin. Results show that the size and the bandgap energy of QDs are easily controlled in the proposed growth method. Finally, QD-sensitized solar cells show the efficiency of 3.5 %, indicating the QDs as a suitable sensitizer in a cell.
