Abstract

The microstructure evolution and creep fracture mechanism of Al2O3f/Mg-6Al-0.5Nd-1Gd at different creep stages have been investigated by high temperature creep apparatus, X-ray diffraction analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. The results show that the composite is composed of α-Mg, β-Mg17Al12, Al2O3, Mg2Si, Al2Nd, and Al2Gd. MgO was generated on the fiber surface as a transition layer. According to the creep test results, the composites are suitable for working conditions below 110 MPa at 200 °C. The creep fracture mode of the composites depends on the interfacial bonding conditions between the matrix alloy and fiber, and the fracture mechanism is a combination of interfacial debonding and fiber fracture.
