Abstract

Based on the cold metal transfer (CMT) technique, AZ91 thick-walled component was fabricated by weaving wire and arc additive manufacturing (WAAM). The results showed that the deposited sample consisted of equiaxed grains with different sizes, and the sample was mainly composed of α-Mg, β-Mg17Al12 and Al8Mn5 phases. The anisotropy of the ultimate tensile strength between the transverse and longitudinal tensile samples was 2.0%, and the fracture surfaces exhibited typical ductile fracture characteristics. The component fabricated by the CMT-based WAAM system has better performance than the traditional cast alloy.
