Abstract
Ti and Y2O3 reaction products find application in flash memory drives, in ODS steels as dispersion strengthening constituent and in Ti castings. The solid state reaction between Ti and Y2O3, was studied using a suitable experimental setup. The reaction product was investigated by a variety of electron microscopy techniques including SEM, TEM and EBSD. Surface characterisation revealed islands of the reaction product and step like structure for the un-reacted Ti matrix, typical of thermal etching. The reaction product was identified as Y2TiO5 by analysis of selected area electron diffraction pattern.
