Abstract

The Al-Cu alloy bars were subjected to electromagnetic upsetting. The microstructural evolution of the adiabatic shear band (ASB) was characterized and revealed. The results showed that multiple slip systems were activated at high strain rates and contribute to the formation of ASB. Dynamic nucleation particles in the boundary of slip bands were formed under the continuous dynamic recrystallization mechanism. In addition, equiaxed dynamic recrystallization grains were produced by a rotating dynamic recrystallization mechanism.
