Abstract

Abstract In the present experimental work pack carburized low carbon steel (IS-2062) plates were characterized using magnetic barkhausen noise analysis. Low carbon steel samples were pack carburized under different conditions by varying the temperature. BN analysis along with hysteresis loop measurement was carried at different magnetizing frequency and magnetic field strength. Metallographic analysis was also performed to correlate the magnetic barkhausen noise results. Variation in microstructural changes in steel plates upon pack carburizing heat treatment clearly reflect their effect on BN signal and hysteresis loop characteristics such as permeability and coercivity.
