Abstract

The effects of micro and nanotexturing on the optical and electrical characteristics of mono crystalline silicon solar cells for space applications were investigated. The reflectance of bare, microtextured and nanotextured solar cells were measured using Hitachi U-4100 at 300–900 nm regions and a reflectivity less than 10% was obtained. In contrast to bare silicon solar cells micro and nanotexturing reduced the reflection of irradiance light significantly. Electrical characteristics of solar cells was investigated using Photo Emission Technic SS150 AAA under AM 0 condition. We obtained practical improvement in the efficiency of solar cells using micro/nanotexturing technology.
