Abstract

This paper describes the micromagnetic simulation of a single-pole-type head for a perpendicular magnetic recording. A Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert calculation that treats the whole magnetic material micromagnetically is performed. The recording fields are investigated for various pole-tip structures. It is found that an optimum nonzero throat height exists that maximizes recording field strength. The addition of a trailing shield is found to be effective in regards to obtaining a larger recording field gradient
