Abstract

Summary The protocerebrum has an enormously developed mushroom body with a double-layered calyx and a small and stout stalk with a feebly developed outer and a well-developed inner roots. The glial cells over the inner and outer lobes of the mushroom bodies are similar in shape and size and are placed in seven groups. A fibrous connection joins the stalks of opposite sides. The ocellar lobes are placed anterolaterally to the central body. A pair of small oval glomerular structures constitute the ventral tubercle which does not have direct connection with the ocellar lobes. Three big bean-shaped optic neuropiles are present, the third is connected with the deutocerebrum. A chiasma internum is made by the crossing of fibres joining first and second optic neuropile. The deutocerebral lobe consists of an outer glomerular cortex and an inner fibrous medulla. The tritocerebrum is a small and simple centre.
