Abstract

The micelle catalyzed hydrolysis of p‐nitrophenyl picolinate (PNPP) and p‐nitrophenyl acetate (PNPA) in water/β‐cyclodextrin (β‐CD)/cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) systems were investigated spectrophotometrically at pH 7.02, 25°C. The pseudophase model for micellar catalysis was exployed to quantitatively treat the results obtained. Comparison of the results indicates that neither β‐CD nor the β‐CD complex form part of the micelles, the aggregation number being the same whether the micelles are in the presence or in the absence of the β‐CD and/or the β‐CD complex.
