Abstract

Linear relations were derived between logarithmic rate constants of chain propagation in radical polymerization and the addition of a methyl and trifluoromethyl radical to vinyl monomers and the λ max value in UV spectra. It was shown that the wave length of long-wave electron transfer changes in the same sequence as do the thermochemical deviations from additivity; this enables us to determine the reactivity series of monomers in radical processes according to UV spectra.
