Introduction. The crucial role of methodologically sound pedagogical texts in scientific communication emphasises the need to develop tools for their critical analysis by readers. One such tool is academic commentary, which specifically evaluates the validity of conclusions, supplements, and corrects the author’s content, logic, and intended meaning . Aim. The present study aimed to substantiate the structure of academic commentary on an educational text that fulfils the requirements of contemporary scientific methodology in the humanities. Methodology and research methods . The selection of materials was based on the following criteria: (a) representativeness, as reflected by the authors’ broad range of scientific standing; (b) diversity of the authors’ research interests; and (c) varying scales of scientific research. The analysis included publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals indexed in the Scopus, Web of Science, and RSCI databases, as well as leading peer-reviewed Russian journals from the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC) list, and scientific monographs. Logical content analysis was employed to identify logical inconsistencies and to assess the substantive sufficiency of the texts. Results . Academic commentary on a scientific text within the field of education constitutes a form of methodological reflection, encompassing a comprehensive analysis and evaluation of the research parameters presented. The proposed commentary model includes reflection on: (a) the substantive adequacy of the conclusions drawn; (b) logical validity; and (c) the portrayal of the author as perceived by the reader. The inclusion of academic commentary among the procedures of methodological reflection is justified by the following stages: stopping and fixation (highlighting fragments of the text subject to methodological commentary); distancing (shifting from the role of reader to that of scientific analyst); objectification (evaluation that excludes personal preferences and is based on recognised methodological criteria); and reversal (delayed comprehension of the accuracy of the commentary itself). The developed model permits the use of both rigorous (formalised) evaluation criteria – for example, in analysing logical validity – and more flexible (interpretative) approaches when assessing substantive adequacy and the author’s image in the reader’s mind. Scientific novelty. The scientific novelty of this research lies in the substantiation of the component composition of academic commentary, the development of methods for its integration into methodological reflection, and the establishment of a criteria-based typology of commentary according to its critical role in educational research. Practical significance . The practical significance of this research is realised through the development of a toolkit for evaluating pedagogical texts and creating educational content across all levels of higher pedagogical education, from bachelor’s degrees to doctoral studies.

  • Леся Златів

The article substantiates the necessity of forming the masters-philologists’ skills to analyze the scientific and educational linguistic text by structural-semantic and communicative-pragmatic parameters. For this purpose, the project of the Higher Education in Ukraine Standards, the university curricula and methodological materials for the philological faculties have been analyzed. As the study shows, the content of the academic disciplines does not provide the graduates with the opportunities and satisfactory basis for developing skills of the analysis of scientific and educational linguistic texts from the standpoint of their structural-semantic and communicative-pragmatic aspects. The scientific text relates to different genres of scientific and educational substyles, the author of which is usually a scientist-linguist, a teacher (a textbook, a guide, a course of lectures, lectures, a syllabus of discipline, methodical recommendations, a workshop, a collection of exercises, an electronic textbook, e-manual, etc.). The Master-philologist in the learning process should master the skills of how to analyze and produce such texts in the mentioned genres, since his further professional work as a teacher-linguist implies the creation of discipline syllabus, textbooks, manuals, methodological guides, lectures, development of practical and seminar schedules, system of exercises and tasks from a specific discipline, etc.In view of this, the article analyzes various approaches to the definition of the concept of "scientific and educational text" in the scientific literature. The author suggests the definition of the term-concept "scientific and educational linguistic text" in terms of the linguodidactics of higher education. The scientific-educational linguistic text is defined as a verbal component of the educational linguistic discourse, which has specific semantic-syntactic and communicative-pragmatic characteristics, intended for submitting scientific information and the establishment of a special communicative contact with the addressee in order to interest and encourage him to acquire new knowledge, necessary for the formation of the key professional competences in the disciplines of the linguistic cycle. The study of the scientific literature and the author's individual research of previous years provided a solid basis for designing the scheme of analysis of the scientific and educational linguistic text, which includes the general characterization of a text, analysis of the structural-semantic and communicative-pragmatic features. A system of the textual tasks of an analytical-synthetic type is proposed for the formation of such skills of the masters-philologists with in the framework of the linguistic disciplines cycle of the HEI (higher educational institutions).

Key words: scientific and educational text, scientific and educational linguistic text, structural-semantic, communicative-pragmatic features of the text, analysis of the text.

  • Liudmyla Maltseva

An article of philological orientation, as it is a discursive analysis of the text of scientific style. Educational and scientific text is considered as a system of subtexts. Each subtext implements its cognitive task in the text. The purpose of the article is to study the essence of adaptation of the educational-scientific text to the educationalpedagogical situation. The article reveals the scope of the concept of “subtext of old knowledge”. Scientific novelty. Educational and scientific text is a kind of scientific style. This originality is expressed in the content complexity of information, complication or simplification of the text structure. It is noted that the educational and scientific text focuses on the mass of the recipient of information, and that is why it is variable in volume. In the texts of the textbooks we study there is a simplified presentation of scientific material that removes meaningful difficulties, while the form of the secondary text does not differ much from the form of the derived text. As a conclusion, the article emphasizes the basic principles of the concept of “subtext of old knowledge” in the educational and scientific text. Ways of adaptation of the subtext of old knowledge to age and psychological features of pupils are allocated and analyzed. Textbooks on theoretical grammar of Slavic, Romance and Germanic languages from the standpoint of adaptation of the subtext of old knowledge are analyzed.

Environmental degradation, climate change, the greenhouse effect and other negative consequences are the key problems of humanity. And one of the ways to solve these problems is the development of renewable energy based on the use of innovative technologies. In the study of the impact of the parameters of innovative development on renewable energy, was performed bibliometric analysis using such software as VOSviewer, Web of Science, Scopus Tools Analysis and Google Trends. A sample of papers from 2000-2021 from the Scopus® database, which contains bibliographic information about scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals, books and conferences, was selected for data analysis. The results of the analysis based on the Scopus® database tools confirmed the hypothesis of a growing trend of publications that examining the issues of innovation in the context of renewable energy development. With the help of VOSviewer (version 1.6.18) were identified four clusters. These clusters are: types of resources, renewable energy, sustainable development, innovation. The second cluster (renewable energy) focuses on the terms with the strongest communication power. The article found that research in the field of innovation and development of renewable energy is carried out by different countries. However, these issues are most actively studied in the following countries: the United States, China and the United Kingdom. A separate dynamics of the number of publications was studied in 11 countries, of which 10 countries are leaders in the number of publications. Data from Ukraine are analyzed also. The dynamics of the number of publications in each country varies. For example, the dynamics of publications in China is growing rapidly in 2021. In the United States, the dynamics of publications are characterized as fluctuations. At the same time, in 2021 the country has the largest number of works among all the studied countries. The dynamic of publications in the UK is characterized by fluctuations with the significant decrease in 2021. In Ukraine, the indicators began to appear in 2013. But in 2021 their number increases significantly. The Google Trends tool has identified public interest in the topic. The interest of business and industry is considered separately. It was found that in the first case, the interest is more in innovation. Business and industry are paying more attention to the development of renewable energy sources.

FORMATION OF TERMINOLOGICAL COMPETENCY IN FUTURE SPECIALISTS IN THE ECONOMICAL FIELD OF STUDY
  • Sep 30, 2023
  • PEDAGOGY AND EDUCATION MANAGEMENT REVIEW
  • Valentyna Avramenko

The article reveals the peculiarities of the formation of technological competence in future specialists of the economic direction. The purpose of the article is to reveal the peculiarities of the formation of technological competence of future specialists in the economic direction. The study used general scientific technological competencies of future specialists. An analysis of the literature on the research problem was carried out to study the state of its development and prospects for research, systematization and generalization of conclusions. The work based on such a study outlines the concept of "terminological competence of future specialists in the economic profile." The current state of formation of the studied competence among students of economic education is considered. Students of economic education use the presented exercises for developing the specified competence. Ways to improve the formation of the terminological competence of economist students involve the comprehensive use of scientific and educational texts, terminological dictionaries from various economic fields of knowledge, and mass media materials. The process of forming the terminological competence of future economists takes place thanks to the presence in the economic terminology, which is developed and obeys the laws of language. The article systematizes the main parameters in the evolving economic terminology, which adhere to the laws of language: polysemy of terms; determinologization of terms resulting from their usage in various scientific fields, including economics; introduction of term components into synonymous paradigms; functioning of specialized terms as part of homonymous paradigms; introduction of professional terms into paronymous paradigms; functioning of term components within antonymous paradigms; inclusion of economic terms in word-formation nests; presence of both outdated terms and neologisms in the terminological system; increase in the use of term components in educational and scientific texts. This topic is quite promising, and further research is needed to address the issue of using specific national economic term components instead of extensive use of foreign terms.

Osteopathic Emergency Medicine Programs Infrequently Publish in High-Impact Emergency Medicine Journals
  • Oct 10, 2014
  • Western Journal of Emergency Medicine
  • Sean M Baskin + 2 more

IntroductionBoth the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) require core faculty to engage in scholarly work, including publication in peer-reviewed journals. With the ACGME/AOA merger, we sought to evaluate the frequency of publication in high-impact peer-reviewed EM journals from authors affiliated with osteopathic emergency medicine (EM) programs.MethodsWe performed a retrospective literature review using the Journal Citation Report database and identified the top five journals in the category of ‘Emergency Medicine’ by their 2011 Impact Factor. We examined all publications from each journal for 2011. For each article we recorded article type, authors’ names, position of authorship (first, senior or other), the author’s degree and affiliated institution. We present the data in raw numbers and percentages.ResultsThe 2011 EM journals with the highest impact factor were the following: Annals of Emergency Medicine, Resuscitation, Journal of Trauma, Injury, and Academic Emergency Medicine. Of the 9,298 authors published in these journals in 2011; 1,309 (15%) claimed affiliation with U.S.-based EM programs, of which 16 (1%) listed their affiliations with eight different osteopathic EM programs. The 16 authors claimed affiliation with 8 of 46 osteopathic EM programs (17%), while 1,301 authors claimed affiliation with 104 of 148 (70%) U.S.-based allopathic programs.ConclusionAuthors from osteopathic EM programs are under-represented in the top EM journals. With the pending ACGME/AOA merger, there is a significant opportunity for improvement in the rate of publication of osteopathic EM programs in top tier EM journals.

The Matthew Effect in Science, II: Cumulative Advantage and the Symbolism of Intellectual Property
  • Dec 1, 1988

  • Robert K Merton

HE SUBJECT OF THIS ESSAY is a problem in the sociology of science that has long been of interest to me. That problem, a candid friend tells me, is somewhat obscured by the formidable title assigned to it. Yet, properly deciphered, the title is not nearly as opaque as it might at first seem. Consider first the signal emitted by the Roman numeral II in the main title. It informs us that the paper follows on an earlier one, “The Matthew Effect in Science, ” which I finally put into print a good many years ago.’ The ponderous, not to say lumpy, subtitle goes on to signal the direction of this follow-on. The first concept, cumulative advantage, applied to the domain of science, refers to the social processes through which various kinds of opportunities for scientific inquiry as well as the subsequent symbolic and material rewards for the results of that inquiry tend to accumulate for individual practitioners of science, as they do also for organizations engaged in scientific work. The concept of cumulative advantage directs our attention to the ways in which initial comparative advantages of trained capacity successive increments of 7 s

Educational Research Review From Diverse Perspectives: A Bibliometric Analysis of Web of Science (2011–2020)
  • Oct 1, 2022
  • Sage Open
  • Aslıhan Sezgin + 2 more

This study aims to reveal the bibliometric characteristics of publications on educational research from diverse perspectives, including the level of national-international collaborations, the percentage change in open-access papers, and interactions with other disciplines. Through bibliometric analysis, the data were collected from Web of Science (WoS), “Education and Educational Research (E&ER),”“Psychology, Educational (PE),”“Education, Special (ES)” and “Education Scientific Disciplines (ESD)” categories, during 2011 to 2020. The findings suggest that the number of publications in each category and the percentage of open-access publications have increased regularly. However, it was observed that categories, especially the ES category, were partially falling behind, as compared to the growth in WoS; while the ES and the PE categories were the highest regarding national-international collaborations over time. Both collaboration levels were the highest in the E&ER category. It was concluded that the multi-authorship trend has rapidly increased, the number of references has regularly increased, and specifically, the PE category has been distinguished from others in terms of the references used. Meanwhile, the change over time in the aggregate impact factor, calculated for each category as a measure of the widespread impact of the studies, pointed to inflation. The results show that educational research is becoming more organized and international, while less fragmented. Moreover, the findings support that educational research is interdisciplinary in essence and diverse in content.

The purpose of this study is to analyse scientific texts used in Korean reading assessment. For this purpose, total 36 scientific texts used in 1994~2015 College Scholastic Ability Test(CSAT, Language Art) were analysed and then categorized with its characteristics. Before analysing texts, theoretical tool was designed based on Wang(1998), which had analysed contents of scientific history texts in textbook. On the contents level, scientific concept, process, context, and on the expression level, mainly paragraph were selected as key items for analysing texts. Using this theoretical tool, scientific texts used in CSAT has finally categorized into four types as follows. Type ① is the text which has included scientific concept, process, context, and these contents have fitted in with paragraph structure, so it would be appropriate texts in Korean reading assessment and scientific education also. Type ② is the text which has mainly included scientific concept without process and context, and these abstract concepts have expressed with very elaborate and detailed sentences. So it could not be read easily without content knowledges. For this reason, this type would be reconsidered as texts for reading assessment. Type ③ is the text which has included scientific concept and process. Depending on how much this process would be exposed on the text and how much this process would fitted in with writing strategies of developing content, appropriacy of this text would be differentiated. Type ④ is the text which has included scientific concept, process, context, however, these contents have not fitted in with paragraph structure. So it might be appropriate texts in science education, however, in Korean reading assessment it would not.
