Abstract
The need for a study of Soviet philosophic method is, perhaps, seen most clearly in the fact that Western observers are unanimous in characterising contemporary Soviet philosophy as “dogmatic”, while contemporary Soviet philosophers themselves are just as unanimous in maintaining that theirs is a “scientific” philosophy — indeed, the sole scientific philosophy. In order to solve this dilemma we asked ourselves the following questions: “What method (i.e. procedure) do contemporary Soviet philosophers use in the discussion and development of Dialectical Materialism?”1; “To what extent, if any, can this method be called a dogmatic procedure, and to what extent, if any, can it be called scientific?”; “What is the real significance of this method?”; “For what reasons has it been accepted by contemporary Soviet philosophers?”.
