Abstract

On the basis of the present-day metabolic pathways of Bacteria and Archaea, which have ancient phylogenetic roots, a new biomimetic design of an autocatalytic chemoautotrophic CO2 archaic fixation cycle (CAF cycle) is proposed. The competition between archaic chemoautotrophic cycles inside CAF cycle should lead to chemical natural selection of cycles in the hydrothermal conditions of the ancient Earth. The physical and chemical conditions for the formation of activated thioesters of the CH3CO∼SCH3 type (analogues of acetyl-coenzyme A), activating of CO2 fixation cycle intermediates, are considered.
