Abstract

The decays of strongly interacting systems with the quantum numbersJP=1− andC=−1 into pseudoscalar mesons are discussed. The3S1\(\bar pp\) system at rest is within this category and predicted branching ratios for its annihilation are presented. The related processes of KN*→Kππ and1S0\(\bar pp\) annihilation are discussed. Interesting results include the determination of theSU3\(\bar BBV\)D/F ratio to be 2.3 rather than theSU6 value of 3/2 and the indication that fη*NN-2fπ0NN where the η* is the 960 MeV ηππ resonance. Such a large negative value for the η* coupling constant may help to explain the rapid increase with energy of the proton Compton scattering cross-section.
