Abstract

The study defines the system processes active in communication and cultural capital, by examining the wellbeing and happiness of the indigenous people in the Nongkwaw community, Thamuang district in Kanchanaburi province under the framework developed by the Thai National Economic and Social Development Board and the Ministry of Public Health. The research also develops indicators on seven aspects of wellbeing: health, literacy, security and work satisfaction, economic sufficiency, community, equity, and the influence of communication exposure on their happiness via the use of a survey on media and happiness. Research procedures were separated into three stages: interviews; questionnaires and a documentary. Analysis shows that globalization and cultural tourism have had an impact on the lifestyle of the community. Yet mainstream media has served as a channel to connect people and create happiness. Results indicated that all participants were happy and welcomed the benefits of their exposure to the public.
