Abstract

Dr Pat Levitt: Was there some correlation between levels of DHA and visual acuity when the differences in DHA in human milk were rather modest? Dr Sheila Innis: There was a significant difference in visual acuity between infants in the highest tertile of DHA, who received milk with a mean of 0.31% DHA, and infants in the lowest tertile of DHA, who received milk with 0.17% DHA. There was no difference between infants in the lowest or highest tertile and infants in the middle tertile, who received milk with 0.22% DHA. So, differences were not present in the functional test when differences in DHA were small.
