Abstract

In recent years, our country suffered a severe haze weather, which had a large impact on the urban air quality, economic development, and people′s health. The composition of haze includes gaseous pollutants such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5, PM0.1). PM2.5 is the carrier of many kinds of heavy metal, acidic oxides and the organic pollutants (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, etc.), accumulates and diffuses with airflow through the trachea to the lung, and then comes to other systems with blood flow through the pulmonary ventilation. Many experts and scholars have studied the mechanism of the respiratory system damage caused by the haze. The results have shown that haze has a large damage on the lung function, physiological, biochemical, and genetic levels of the human body. This paper makes a brief review of the current research progress on pathogenic mechanisms of haze on body. Key words: Particulate matter; Mechanism; Inflammation; Oxidative stress
