Abstract

Theoretical analysis is given for the "Brand and Backer bicomponent fiber model" with cross sections possessing certain well defined symmetry. The analysis excludes time-dependent effects but accommodates arbitrary stress-strain relationships. Closed form solutions are given for rectangular and elliptical cross sections for linearly elastic materials. Stress and strain distributions in the final configuration are obtained for rectangular cross sections.
