Abstract

Laminated ZrB2-SiC/Si3N4w ceramics were prepared by using Si3N4 whiskers as interface layer. Toughness of the laminated ceramics was remarkable improved, because of the deflection and bifurcation of crack. Moreover, the laminated ZrB2-SiC/Si3N4w ceramics showed better ablation resistance than monolithic ZrB2-SiC ceramics, which was tested at 3000 °C for 100 s. Higher thermal conductivity of laminated ceramics than that of monolithic ceramics in both the in-plane direction and through-plane direction, leads to faster heat transfer in laminated ceramics during the ablation process.
