Abstract
There is documented variability in the use of antibiotics in patients with isolated mandibular fractures in terms of dosing and frequency, which may be attributable to the complexity in assessing mandibular injury, including number of fractures, displacement, involvement of teeth and surrounding soft tissue, and impact on occlusion.1 To address disparate practice patterns in the management of patients with facial fractures, the Surgical Infection Society’s Therapeutics and Guidelines Committee (SIS) released guidelines in June 2020 concerning antibiotic use in the treatment of patients with facial fractures.
