Abstract
Measurements have been made of the basal plane anisotropy energy of terbium between 17.4 and 201.4 K in magnetic fields up to 4 T using a rotating sample magnetometer. The values found for K 6 6 are larger than existing data at low temperatures and are in good agreement with the temperature variation predicted for anisotropy of single-ion origin.
