Abstract

Abstract The monitoring of steel and aluminum corrosion rates in aqueous solutions was investigated using a galvanic couple reaction. The current through a galvanic couple using a zero impedance ammeter had an extremely high correlation with the corrosion rate obtained from weight loss measurement. The error of this method was in the range of <±25% for steel, and ±35% or less for aluminum. By using this method, it was also possible to measure simultaneously both the corrosion rate over a long period of time and the instantaneous rate during a specified time.
