Abstract

The (βγ) circular polarization correlation is measured in La 140 by selection of γ-quanta with energy of 1.6 MeV and β-spectrum electrons with an upper limit of 2.2 MeV in La 140 . The resulting correlation coefficient is ω = + 0.15±0.09. Analysis of experimental data warrants the conclusion that the high value of log ft in the β-transition 3 − →2 + of La 140 is due to the cancellation of nuclear matrix elements. The relative quantity of the relativistic matrix elements is estimated.
