Abstract

Domańska U. and Rolínska J., 1993. Measurement and correlation of the solubility of n-alkanols (C18, C20) in n-alkanes (C7–C16). Fluid Phase Equilibria, 86: 233-250 The solubility of C18, C20 n-alkanols (1-octadecanol and 1-eicosanol) in hexadecane has been measured by a dynamic method from 290 K to the melting point. These and previous data concerning solubilities in normal alkanes (C7–C15) are correlated by means of Wilson, UNIQUAC, UNIQUAC ASM and two modified NRTL equations. The root-mean-square deviations of the solubility temperatures for all measured data vary from 0.23 to 2.43 K and depend on the particular equation used. The best solubility correlation was obtained with the Wilson equation. In the calculations, the existence of two solid-solid first-order phase transitions in alkanols has also been taken into consideration.
