Abstract

In accordance with the Partial Shading Conditions (PSCs), the Photovoltaic(PV) array receives non-uniform insolation. This results a weighty drop in power output and creates the multiple maximum points in P-V curve. To solve this problem, PV modules in array are interconnected in various configurations. These configurations increase the output power of PV array by provide an alternative path to the direction of current. In this paper a Symmetrical Array (SA) puzzle pattern configuration is presented to increase the array output power under PSC. The main objective of this work is to compare the performance of SA configuration with the Bridge-Link (BL), Series-Parallel (SP), Total-Cross-Tied (TCT) and Honey-Comb (HC) configurations under various shading conditions. For comparison purpose the maximum power output, power loss due to mismatch and fill factor constraints are considered. The parameters of the WAAREE ENERGIES WS-260 solar PV module are taken to analyze the performance of 4×4 PV array configuration. The results are generated using MATLAB/Simulink. Finally, it is concluded that SA configuration has maximum power output, lower power loss with mismatch and higher fill factor compared to other configurations under PSCs.
