Abstract

Elementary group theory is shown to provide easily the independent cartesian orthogonal components of tensor properties in material systems of finite symmetry. The method is applied to second, third and fourth order polar and axial tensors of no intrinsic symmetry in trigonal and hexagonal systems, and the final results are tabulated.
