Abstract
By a result of Latimer and MacDuffee, there are a finite number of equivalence classes of n×n matrices over Fq[T] with minimum polynomial p(X), where p is an nth degree polynomial, irreducible over Fq[T]. In this paper, we develop an algorithm for finding a canonical representative of each matrix class, for p(X)=X2−ΓX−Δ∈Fq[T][X].
