Abstract

Time–frequency (TF) analysis is a powerful tool to describe the frequency response of subsurface rocks and hydrocarbon reservoirs. In this letter, the matching demodulation synchrosqueezing S transform (MDSST) that achieves a highly concentrated TF representation was introduced to seismic TF analysis. The MDSST includes two steps: the matching demodulation technique is preprocessing that provides a rough estimation of instantaneous frequency (IF) of the analyzed signal, and the synchrosqueezing transform (SST) is postprocessing that produces an accurate IF. Numerical experiments on synthetic and real signals demonstrate the superiority of the MDSST in seismic TF analysis.
