COMMITTEE ON MATERNAL WELFARE*Paralytic IleusA twenty-one-year-old gravida 2, para 1, was admitted to the hospital with painless bleeding in the thirty-eighth week. Under double-setup precautions partial premature separation of the placenta was diagnosed, but the cervix was found "unfavorable" and a lower-segment cesarean section was done. She died four days later.There had been only four prenatal visits, all with normal findings, three to seven weeks apart, the last at thirty-five weeks. Then the return appointment was set for a full calendar month later, — that is, six days before the estimated date of confinement, — but admission . . .
