Abstract

What would happen if every nurse refused to pay the proposed Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) increase (news February 4)? Would the NMC strike off 600,000 nurses and so bring the whole of the British healthcare system to a halt in one fell swoop? It is about time the government wrote off the debts of the prior UKCC and allowed the NMC to start with a clean sheet. If they can find billions to bomb Iraq they can find a couple of million to support nurses in Britain.
