Abstract

AbstractThe neurologist-psychiatrist Martin Moritz Pappenheim was born on 4 November 1881 in Pressburg, Austria–Hungary (now Bratislava, Slovakia), the son of Max Pappenheim (1850–1921), a Jewish teacher, and his Ukrainian wife, Regina (née Sprecher, 1858–1924). He attended the Maximilian Gymnasium in Vienna from 1891 to 1899, studied medicine at the University of Vienna, and obtained his M.D. degree in 1905.
