Abstract

Thermal conductivity of Bi 2Sr 2Ca(Cu 1− x Ni x ) 2O 8 high-temperature superconductor display a low-temperature anomaly. It manifests itself as a sharp reduction of the thermal conductivity of the samples at a temperature T ∗ c ≈200 mK. We interpret this anomaly as an indication of a marginal stability of the d x 2− y 2 due to interaction with the spins of magnetic impurities. We suggest that d x 2− y 2 +i d xy state forms below T ∗ c .
