Abstract

The dramatic increase in the number of colleges and decreasing numbers of children in families has meant that inter-school competition has become much more fierce. The highly competitive nature of the education sector means that all aspects of a school's milieu are critical to attracting students. The learning environment, specifically the student dormitories, are a crucial element in the success of a student's education and development. Student dorms are often the physical and spiritual centre of a student's life and growth. Thus, one of the fundamental concerns of a school should be to create and maintain student dorms of excellent quality This study was conducted using the Redefined Kano Model to deduce the service priorities of student dorms. The results offer many implications to enhance service quality improvement. The research results indicate that there are 9 factors that substantially affect the level of service quality at a school. These 9 primary aspects of service quality include, the suites/rooms, recreation facilities, personal privacy, Internet faculties, drinking water equipment, air conditioning, soundproofing, bedroom equipment and fire hydrant facilities. This research illustrates that when a school recognizes the importance of these elements, and strives to improve their delivery, it can dramatically enhance student satisfaction. It is suggested that any school wishing to improve the quality of the service delivery to their clients (students) emphasize these 9 elements.
