Abstract
This discussion paper presents Phases of Interplay as a framework to facilitate reflection on progress within individual music therapy sessions with full-term hospitalized infants. Drawing on a nursing protocol for premature infants and principles from psychotherapy, this diagrammatic representation of session progress offers a tool for explicating the more implicit elements of interplay and the relationship between therapist and infant client. This is a framework for use by clinicians in daily practice.
