Abstract

Rotator cuff tendinopathy refers to an injury to the tendons, which causes localized pain in the shoulder region, weakness and impaired function, and is most commonly associated with movements of external rotation and elevation of the shoulder. The rotator cuff is made up of four muscles: the subscapularis, supraspinatus, infraspinatus and teres minor. These muscles provide functional stability of the joint and perform shoulder movements. Symptoms may manifest acutely following an injury or chronically as a result of exposure to excessive load and repetitive movements.
