Abstract

Epistaxis is a common emergency department (ED) presentation, accounting for approximately 1-in-200 visits in the United States.1 It has a bimodal distribution, most commonly affecting those less than 10 and older than 60 years of age.1,2 Most cases are atraumatic, and it is more common in winter.1,2 The etiology is commonly divided into local (eg, lack of humidification, trauma, intranasal medications, infection, inflammation, tumors) and systemic (eg, blood dyscrasias, leukemia, atherosclerosis) causes.
