Abstract

Scarlet fever, or scarlatina, is an infection that causes a blotchy, pink–red rash. It is common in young children but it can affect people of any age. It is not usually serious and can be treated by a course of antibiotics from the child's GP. Once a child has had scarlet fever they are unlikely to get it again ( National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, 2015 ).
