Abstract

We describe the management of an ovarian dysgerminoma detected in the second trimester. A 17-cm ovarian tumor was removed at 29 weeks' gestation while maintaining the pregnancy. Histology showed an ovarian dysgerminoma. Two courses of chemotherapy (carboplatin and etoposide) were administered at 31 and 35 weeks' gestation. Apart from intrauterine growth retardation, chemotherapy was well tolerated by the mother and the fetus. A healthy small-for-date girl was delivered vaginally at term. Three months postpartum second-look laparoscopy with iliac and paraaortic lymphadenectomy and multiple peritoneal biopsies showed no evidence of disease.
