Abstract

The magnetostructural transformations and magnetocaloric effect have been investigated in MnNiGe1−xGax alloys. Substitution of Ga for Ge induced the contraction of the lattice and the stabilization of the high-temperature hexagonal phase. Magnetostructural transformations between antiferromagnetic orthorhombic phases and ferromagnetic hexagonal phases were realized in the Ga-doped MnNiGe alloys. Large and positive magnetic entropy changes were observed under relatively low magnetic field.
