Abstract

The magnetomechanical damping (MMD) and mechanical Barkhausen noise power (MN) are due to stress induced irreversible jumps of non-180° domain walls in magnetostrictive materials. The high-frequency component of MN power shows a strong correlation with the behaviors of MMD and magnetostriction, while the low-frequency component, only present in the magnetized state, varies like the maximum permeability and the magnetic Barkhausen signal.
