Abstract

A homobimetallic complex, [{Sm(tta)3(MeOH)}2(μ-bpm)]·1bpm (tta=2-thenoyltrifluoroacetonato, bpm=2,2′-bipyrimidine) has been synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Magnetic measurements (between 5 and 295K) show that the two metal centers bridged by the bpm connector are magnetically almost isolated. The SmIII emission is observed upon excitation in a wide range of wavelengths going from the UV to the visible (250–500nm).
