Abstract

The notion of magnetic texture in films for perpendicular magnetic recording is introduced. The characteristics of magnetic texture dispersion ( δϑ 50) in CoCr films are also defined. The method of determination of material constants from the curves of film magnetization, including the first and second anisotropy constants K 1 and K 2, as well as ° ϑ 50 is proposed. The effects of film structure have been studied on the basis of a magnetostatic model of a columnar structure. The shape anisotropy constants is estimated to have the value ≈5×10 5 erg/cm 3, when M s in the volume of column is 400 G. The criteria for the applicability of films as perpendicular magnetic recording media are also formulated.
